Water is my favorite element. Constantly cycling, every drop that’s with us now has been here for about 5 billion years. This water has nourished bodies, grown crops, and eradicated civilizations. It knows things. #SANKOFA
Black spirituality from around the world reminds us to respect and honor this element and the deities associated with it--Mami Wata, Lasiren, and Oshun. I hope this painting captures even a fraction of the beauty and power that I feel every time I step into the ocean.
