“HOME IS A PLACE WITHIN YOURSELF. STAY ANCHORED”.
I’d always dreamed of being a nomad since I was a little girl, and so for weeks I explored the world and myself, taking refuge in the homes of friends, partners, family and even kind strangers.
I remember being called “unmoored” by a friend twice my age. The word sat in my psyche like a flippant little earworm, reminding me that not everyone would understand the journey I was on, and that the idea of releasing attachments could be terrifying, even to those who had weathered many storms, if their spirit wasn’t trained to swim.
Water is a venerated power across cultures. Revered for its cleansing and healing properties, water is an essential force typically associated with femininity and rebirth.
A year and change later, I’m proud of the woman who emerged from the waves and didn’t let herself drown, even when the tide dragged her under.
